Noise from neightbours' stairs

I have just moved into a new house and even though the neighbours are really nice and pretty quiet on the whole (even though they have two young children) the only thing we can hear constantly is their footsteps every time they go up and down their stairs. I think this may be caused by the wall on either side of the stairs being a stud wall and not a brick wall and so any footsteps will vibrate through the timber to next door. At times it sounds as if they are in our house especially when the children are running up and down. Is there anything that can be done about this at all?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards.
