As you maybe know, sound is actually movement of air. So soundproofing basically means that you stop air from moving or at least reduce the speed amplitude of it. We will now introduce you to some basic soundproofing methods.
The most frequently used one is a sound barrier which can be made of almost any non porous material. The only criterion is that it must have enough weight and density and be with low resonant frequency so that when a sound wave comes it is stopped or reflected on the surface of the sound barrier.
The second method is passive absorption. It means that the material (for example acoustic foam) is made so that sound wave has to change direction multiple times when it passes through the material. If it has to change its primal direction, it looses some of its energy which is transformed into warmth. So finally when sound, or actually what is left of it, gets to you, the level of noise is reduced remarkably.
The third method is active noise cancellation. It works on the principals of physics. When two sound waves arrive together with the phase difference of 180 degrees, they are drowned down. As this method is the most sophisticated one, it is the most expensive too. But the main advantage of it is that it is the most effective one as it destroys the noise completely.
It is important that you choose the soundproofing method that is the most suitable for you and if you have some further questions on this topic do not hesitate to ask them from our experts.
